The author writes:
And this concludes the "Gwenyth meets Samuel L. Johnson" storyline. Don't worry too much about Gwenyth; she's a strong character and will live it down. Eventually.
For full disclosure (and in the interest of telling the world what a complete and utter idiot I am), this storyline was inspired by the following real event: It was god-awfully early in the morning after ConVulsion, and I was by the curb outside the hotel, waiting for a shuttle to take me to the airport. Waiting beside me was a fellow that I thought looked familiar. For some reason he was still wearing his name tag. It was Randall Munroe!
I collected my wits, introduced myself, and told him how much I like Something Positive. He looked slightly puzzled and said something awkwardly non-committal. I got the impression that 04.30 was not his favourite time to converse with fans.
It was only after I got home that it struck me: Randall Munroe is not the same person as Randy Milholland. I'm going to write that out ten times as a penance: Randall Munroe is not the same person as Randy Milholland. Randall Munroe is not the same person as Randy Milholland. Randall Munroe is not the same person as Randy Milholland. Randall Munroe is not the same person as Randy Milholland. Randall Munroe is not the same person as Randy Milholland. Randall Munroe is not the same person as Randy Milholland. Randall Munroe is not the same person as Randy Milholland. Randall Munroe is not the same person as Randy Milholland. Randall Munroe is not the same person as Randy Milholland. Randall Munroe is not the same person as Randy Milholland.
I think perhaps penances were more effective before Ctrl-V was invented.
