The author writes:
I always find it amusing that Popeye is able to hold a pipe in the corner of his mouth on the far side of his face, when sometimes, his entire mouth is visible on the near side. I guess it's one of those cartoon things like the fixed orientation of Mickey Mouse's ears. Or maybe he has a special pipe orifice opened in the side of his cheek to avoid it interfering with other uses of his mouth, like scoffing entire cans of spinach and saying "I yam what I yam"?
I wonder if posters of a shirtless Popeye would be referred to as Popeye Candy?
