Strip by: Ian Boreham
{A bottle of shampoo (labelled "scampoo") has icons of a number of fancy ingredients, labelled "avocado", "betel nut extract", "grasshopper chitin", "flint"}
caption: First they started adding stupid ingredients.
{A bottle of "slampoo" stands in front of a bottle of "collisioner". Both have narrow bases and wide middles. The base of the slampoo is labelled "unstable due to narrow base". The base of the collisioner is a lid, labelled "lid cracks and leaks".}
caption: Then they destabilised the packaging so it would fall over.
{A wavy, S-shaped bottle is labelled (in fine print) "conditioner for use after..." (then in large print) "SHAMPOO". A C-shaped bottle is labelled (in fine print) "shampoo for use before..."
(then in large print) "CONDITIONER".}
caption: Then came confusing labels.
{A pink, feminine-shaped bottle is labelled "I HATE YOU. DON'T BUY ME." A blue masculine-shaped bottle next to it says "I'M WITH SMOOTH AND SILKY.", and has an arrow pointing to the other bottle.}
caption: So what's next? More body?
caption: Or will they just rinse and repeat?
The author writes:
I tried not to get in a lather, writing this one up. We've been conditioned to accept this ridiculousness from the shampoo manufacturers, and it's really got my dander up. It's a knotty problem.
Actually, it's a bit embarrassing to admit it, but while I was in the shower this morning, thinking about what I'd write for this annotation, I fell victim to the problem exaggeratedly alluded to in panel 3, AGAIN. Accidentally squeezing a second load of shampoo is what had prompted me to do this strip in the first place... Aaaargh!
