The author writes:

David Weber's Honorverse series of military sci-fi novels have long been a favourite of mine. In recent books, a group of recently-liberated ex-slaves have founded the Kingdom of Torch in a planet seized from the evil megacorporation that formerly owned them. The young girl they chose to be their Queen took as her sigil a mouse, rather than a more traditionally regal animal such as a lion, stag, or eagle. The Kingdom of Torch exists largely because of the patronage and support of the Star Empire of Manticore, the primary good-guys star nation of the series of novels. So when I saw a mouse claim Jon and Garfield's house for an empire in today's (as I write this) comic, I knew just what to do. I just hope this doesn't become another SRoMG mini-meme with multiple sci-fi and fantasy fandoms replacing the flag with their own favoured fictional factions.
