Strip by: wye

{A mouse is pointing angrily at Jon and holding what is apparently a "wanted" poster with cheese on it}
Mouse: I report cheese theft! Are you the thief, chimp?
{The mouse walks off}
Jon {sarcastically}: Errr... polite
{Garfield walks in, holding up a forelimb}
Garfield: Hi, does my hand smell of Gouda?

The author writes:

"Garfield Anagrammed".

As much as the original strip has been featured here, I don't think I've ever actually understood it. I guess the joke is Garfield recognizing the mouse's claim and being genuinely afraid of retribution if Jon protests - but what kind of punchline is "Shh, don't let them hear you"? Jon's barely said anything!

I decided to reprise #4360 (and #62) and anagram the entire strip's text into something that makes sense - maybe not *more* sense, but not a lot less either - and has a more obvious punchline.

(This time, instead of my own anagram helper tool that keeps track of used letters, I used the one featured in this video, which also suggests possible words, and it came in pretty handy!)

Original strip: 2011-11-19.
