Strip by: FroggoFan64
{Jon comes home to find that Garfield has eaten the neighbors' fern that Jon was supposed to look after while they were on vacation but stupidly left at home with Garfield}
Jon: ARRRRGH!
Garfield: Burp
Jon {crying onto the ledge}: You ate the neighbor's prize fern! What am I going to do now?!
{Garfield picks out one of the stems from what's left of the fern}
SFX: Plick
Garfield {using the stem as a toothpick}: Don't ask me; Jim didn't bother to write an actual ending to this story
The author writes:
It honestly always bugged me that there was a storyline about Jon looking after the neighbors' prized houseplant, only for the story to just abruptly end right after Garfield ate it. Was Jim Davis simply unable to come up with a good gag for Jon trying to get a replacement fern and/or having to tell the neighbors what happened to the original one?
Original strip: 1988-05-11.
