Jon {cheerfully}: You know what the world needs more of?
Garfield: Me!
Jon {still cheerfully}: No!
Garfield α: Too late!
Garfield β: Me!
{Jon now smiles evilly, as if he knew this was exactly what would happen}
{Garfield α has turned to look at Garfield β, with a concerned expression}
Garfield β: Too late!
Garfield γ: Me!
The author writes:
When presented with a wish-granting genie, an ordinary cat might wish for what he wants. A greedy cat might try to wish for more wishes. But it is a very dangerous cat indeed that gets it into his mind to wish for more genies. (Even though, technically, that's exactly what happened in the story that popularised the wish-granting genie in western literature, the tale of Aladdin from the Arabian Nights - the book version of Aladdin actually has two genies, one of which he uses to summon the other, IIRC. At least he did in the version that I read, but given that it was a book for children and a version of a public-domain story, it may have been re-written to be more entertaining.)
