Strip by: Isaac Gantwerk Mayer
Jon: Some kids at school got filthy rich today.
Garfield: Really? How?
{silent beat}
Jon: They grabbed him by the drinking fountain.
Garfield: We're bachelors, baby!
The author writes:
The Calvin and Hobbes strip from which this... uh... "joke" is taken is notorious for being one of the few C&H strips to not really be funny in the slightest. (The thing is, you think he's saying that some kids made a lot of money, but actually they brutally attacked a guy named Richard who was dirty.) In my opinion, it makes more sense for the dialogue to be in the context of Garfield, where being not funny in the slightest is the norm rather than the exception.
