Strip by: Fußmatte
{Garfield is preparing to eat a tasty hamburger, as Odie looks on}
{Odie, with his long tongue, snatches the hamburger}
Garfield {confusedly staring at his own empty hands}: What the...?
Odie {munching on the burger}: Gotcha
The author writes:
The French version of the original strip is weird — in it, Odie basically says, "Gotcha" (according to my French-speaking friend; the text reads "J't'ai eu..."), as opposed to the English strip where he lets out a "ribbit", making a joke about his long frog-like tongue. The weird part being, of course, that Odie talks — so unless this is a dream sequence Garfield is having, of which there is no indication, then I can only chalk this up to the French translator(s) being ditsy.
Original strip: 1982-01-13.
