Strip by: KelpTheGreat

{Jon is seated almost prone on an armchair, his legs supported by a hassock. Garfield rests atop Jon's legs}
Jon: Weekend time drifts by
Jon: Scaling wall, a common pest
Jon: Yet lustrous in fall
Garfield: Jon, whom I endure
Garfield: Waxes eloquent on flies
Garfield: Boredom is his muse

The author writes:

I always feel like fiddling with text.

This is probably the quickest I've created a strip based off of another strip, in terms of time elapsed between original publication, my viewing of said strip, and creating and submitting my strip. Lubaf's strip only went up on SRoMG two days ago, at the time of this submission email.

In creating the haiku, I tried to stick as closely to the meaning of the original text as possible, at least for Jon's dialogue. Obviously, I omitted his repeated line which was present in the original. Garfield's dialogue was much shorter in the original, so I had to pad it out a bit, while trying to make sense in context and fit into the haiku format. I think I did pretty well.

Original strip: 1981-12-13.
