{Jon is listening to something hair-curling on his iPod}
Lou Reed: Jon's listening to a recording.
Lou Reed: I made it myself.
Lou Reed: I call it "Metal Machine Music."

The author writes:

In 1975, Lou Reed released "Metal Machine Music," a double album consisting of 64 minutes of layered, mostly high-pitched guitar feedback and nothing else. (You can hear the first side on this YouTube video... if you dare.) The album received mostly negative reviews and was returned to record stores in droves. Nonetheless, it has inspired countless other artists to release "music" consisting of grating noise (fill in your own Justin Bieber joke here).
