{Jon opens the door to respond to the one that rang the doorbell}
Jon: Wha?
SFX: SPLOT
{Garfield was hit by the snowball he rolled and is now buried in it. Jon looks at the incident with surprise}

The author writes:

Seeing as how Garfield's prank succeeded in that comic, I thought it would be a cool twist if this plan backfired due to a miscalculation on Garfield's part. It's like how certain characters attempt to pull off a practical joke but they backfire due to their oversight. That is OK, because that can be funny too. Since Jon has often been the victim of Garfield's practical jokes, it felt cathartic to see Garfield's joke backfire on him.
