Jon: I need to be more creative.
Jon: You know, I used to paint when I was in college.
Jon: I bet I've still got a masterpiece in me!
Garfield: Yeah, 33 years of being a cartoonist don't count.

The author writes:

While buffering yesterday's submission, I took a look at the introductory strip to Jon's experiments as a painter. And it struck me, why is someone who supposedly makes a living as a cartoonist claiming he needs to be more creative?

Maybe as a cartoonist he's stuck in some sort of rut of cut-and-paste characters and recycled gags...
