Strip by: Garlene1987

{Garfield and Arlene approach each other on the fence}
Arlene: Hey, Garfield
Garfield: Hey, Arlene
{They sit down, Garfield is holding a smartphone}
Arlene: I've always wondered... how do cats show affection?
Garfield: It says here "Head-butting and tail-touching"
{They smile at each other}
{Their heads collide with a painful}
SFX: KONK!
Arlene: Ow!
Garfield: Ow!
{They turn around and touch tails with unhappy expressions}
Arlene: And I'm not sure tail-touching is such a good idea for us. Remember what happened last time?
Garfield: Yes, I do
{Cut to a glow-tinged flashback of Garfield and Arlene on a date, making cat noises and touching tails}
Arlene: MROW
Garfield: OOOO
{They snuggle close together as their tails intertwine}
Garfield: ROWRR
Arlene: UR
{Now they are seen on the fence, silhouetted against the moon, their tails now totally twisted together}
Garfield & Arlene: AROOOOOOO
{They are seen back in whatever room the date started in}
Arlene: Thanks for the date, Garfield
Garfield: Take care, Arlene
{But when they both turn to leave, they realize their tails are completely knotted together}
{Cut back to them on the fence in the present day}
Arlene: Got any other ideas?
Garfield {smiling}: Yes, I do
{Garfield stands up, grabs Arlene and kisses her, to her surprise}
SFX: KISS!
{Arlene smiles}
Arlene: This could catch on
Garfield: If you keep wearing that strawberry-flavored lipstick, you can count on it!

The author writes:

Consider this a spiritual successor to SRoMG #4093, where I go "Erm, acktually they have done this" to a modern Garfield/Arlene strip. At least this one had a sweet ending anyway. And someone may very well "Erm, acktually" me about them touching tails between the 1981 strip and the modern one but whatever at this point.

Just an aside, I really don't know why the color in modern strips is so desaturated. As a result they're not as nice to look at, especially when mashing them up with classic strips.

Original strips: 1981-05-03, 2024-11-03.
