The author writes:

A group of crows is called a murder, you see.

Being unskilled in the art of photo-manipulation, I set up the background photograph simply by pulling it up on the screen of my laptop computer and setting the LEGO baseplate in front of the screen and above the keyboard.

I affixed Meridien's blue bow to her hair piece using earthquake putty, which is unfortunately somewhat visible in panel 2. The minifigure head that I used for Oliver does actually have a scar on it. (And it's even kind of L-shaped.) It's not very visible in this strip, though; your best bet to see it is likely to zoom in on panel 2.
