Strip by: Lubaf
{Image has been squeezed down to a square, flipped horizontally and vertically, and had its colours inverted}
Jon: I wonder what life would be like if we never had to eat.
Garfield: It would take some getting used to.
Garfield: For a time, mothers would fix their families three square-nothings a day.
The author writes:
What does it mean to take the "square root" of an image? There are quite a few possibilities; among them, working the colour space, doing certain transformations based on position (and then, should you treat 0 as the centre, the lower left hand corner, or somewhere else?), and various rotations. Given the ambiguity, I had a hard time deciding. And then I realised that I don't have the imaging software to pull that off.
So instead, I decided to just make the inverse of a squared Garfield strip.
