Odie: {with face make-up like The Joker} How about a magic trick?
Odie: I'm going to make this dinner disappear.
Odie: Ta dah! It's... gone! {the dinner and Jon have vanished}

The author writes:

Ta-dah! It's the joke played straight!

This was the initial concept I had when this idea came to me, but then A) I realised that everyone would be expecting the joke to turn out that way and B) I considered other ideas of how the comic could turn out. So I decided to do them all and, hopefully, give this turnout back a bit of its surprise.
