Strip by: Michael Jacoby
{The whole thing starts off in vivid color, particularly based upon the animated Garfield specials and Garfield and Friends}
{Garfield is asleep}
{He awakens and yawns}
Garfield {scratching himself}: I hate Mondays. Mondays are boring. Woe is me...
Jon {off-panel}: Get the paper, Garfield
{Garfield sulks out to the front}
Garfield: Sigh... yes, master
{Garfield notices that the colorless, black-and-white (no offense!) newspaper}
{All of the color is now removed, leaving a black-and-white illustration of Garfield skipping happily around among a joyous, vernal scene of flowers blooming and birds and bees flying around merrily}
Garfield {overjoyed, despite the monochromatic scene}: It's Sunday!
The author writes:
Inspiration for this one came from #1686 and the original strip. I also think I might be tapping into an old childhood dislike of Sundays, which were often boring and usually meant going back to school after a weekend off, hence the last panel.
And yes, before anyone asks, I noticed in the last panel of the original strip, the floor was light pink, not purple. Again, I based the interior scenes on the color schemes from the TV specials and Garfield and Friends as a tribute to them.
Original strip: 1995-09-10.
