C.1 Continuity

Intuitive Leap: When the puzzle pieces are cut out and arranged so that lines in the puzzle form shapes, words are formed by letters facing the same way.

Cut out the pieces and play with them. After some experimentation, you will find four different arrangements where a continuous shape is formed. The trick here is that the pieces are not always arranged in a square to complete the shapes! For each shape, there is a set of four letters which are the same way up, which spell a word (the other three sets of four letters spell out gibberish). The words and the shapes they appear with are:

  • ANTS - A question mark (arrange tiles in an L-shape)
  • EATS - An integral sign (arrange tiles in a line)
  • WHAT - A spade (arrange tiles in a square)
  • WILD - A musical note (arrange tiles in an S-shape)

There is only one way these words can be rearranged to ask a question:

WHAT EATS WILD ANTS?

The question has a few possible answers, but ANTEATER is the one we are looking for.
