Strip by: Billy Hicks

{Jon and Liz are sitting on stools, facing the reader}
Jon: Hi, there...I'm Jon Arbuckle. I'm a cartoonist, and this is my Doc, Liz.
Liz: Hi, there. I'm Liz. I'm a Doc, and this is my cartoonist, Jon.
Jon: Our only thought is to entertain you.
Liz: {thinks} Feed me.

The author writes:

In this universe, Liz Field is Jon's "doctor" of some sort who takes pity on her patient's lonely life, and they fall in love. The strip becomes a heartwarming relationship comic featuring a highly eccentric man and his ever-suffering girlfriend.

The meaning of the final panel is left for you to decipher.

Technical notes: This took far longer to make than I first thought - the backgrounds had to be redrawn and there aren't many shots of Liz more than just head and shoulders, particularly in the early years before the art style evolves. The first panel is from 1979-10-02 after being rotated and given eyes from 1980-01-29, the second from 1980-01-29 and the third from 1979-06-28.
